The Government of Spain has awarded Paterna with this distinction for its promotion of business innovation.

The City Council of Paterna has received the distinction of City of Science and Innovation that the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities grants to those localities that stand out for their support for innovation in their territories.

This was announced today by the Mayor of the municipality and president of Paterna City of Business association, Juan Antonio Sagredo, who highlighted the importance of this recognition “which places Paterna at the forefront of business innovation, recognizing the high scientific, technological and innovative potential of its institutions and companies”.

The distinction, which is granted for a period of three years, aims to recognize and promote innovation in the municipalities, in line with the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation, and the European Horizon 2020 program.

This recognition is also one more step in the Local Development Strategy promoted by the City Council to create a favorable economic, social and academic environment in our territory that facilitates entrepreneurship and R & D & I, promoting the development of social innovation as axis of the increase of the social well-being and quality of life of the citizens.

Furthermore, the distinction means that Paterna is already part of the Innpulso Network, a contact forum made up of 72 cities and whose objective is to define innovative local policies and promote the projects of local entities.

Being part of this network will allow the city to carry out collaborative projects between municipalities, in addition to positioning it as a priority municipality for hosting scientific and technological facilities or for holding conferences, seminars and other events.
