- Sagredo: “You have to see online sales as an opportunity and not as a threat”.
The Mayor of Paterna and President of Paterna City of Business, Juan Antonio Sagredo highlighted the opportunity of the arrival of Amazon in the city, not only because it will stimulate economic activity in the area and generate jobs, but also because it will offer opportunities for business.
The mayor manifested himself in these terms during the closing of the Amazon Marketplace conference, organized by the Area of Sustainable Economy and Productive Sectors that has taken place at the Luis Vives Business School of the Valencia Chamber in the Technology Park. “The Amazon Marketplace will make our more than 750 Paterna stores more competitive," said Sagredo, while encouraging local commerce, to "take advantage of the e-commerce structure of Amazon to enter this new business model, promote and give added value to its products and reach new audiences”.
The autonomous secretary for the Sustainable Economy and Productive Sectors, Blanca Marín, in charge of closing the event together with Sagredo, underlined that “our objective of changing the production model oriented towards greater business competitiveness and based on R + D + i cannot ignore a sector like commerce, which is 12% of Valencia's GDP”.
In this sense, Marín has indicated that "we must strengthen political action so that small businesses can adapt to ecommerce in the best conditions and not stay out of the way started by large chains that already operate successfully in online commerce”.
Sagredo has pointed out that "online sales must be seen as an opportunity and not as a threat." And in this regard, ha has added that "humane treatment and the closeness to the buyer are unique values of our small business that cannot be replaced."
"Electronic commerce is no longer an alternative, but a basic option to stay in the market and compete with the new consumption patterns of the 21st century," added the mayor, while indicating that "for some retail businesses the entry barriers to start competing on the Internet without being in a marketplace are very high, hence the importance of the experience and infrastructure offered by the Amazon Marketplace and which can be the first step in developing your own online channel”.
